NUDE Generation. 20 years. 20 designers. will consist of three days dedicated to appreciating the winning pieces from this annual competition that was put on hold during the pandemic. You can see them from September 20 to September 23 at the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporánea as part of the twentieth anniversary celebrations of Salón Nude, which itself will take place on October 16. All these events form part of the World Design Capital Valencia 2022 program.
What to learn more about NUDE? As always, we here at Connections by Finsa have broken it all down for you.
From salón to industry
Pepe Cosín, who is one of the curators this year, points out that “all the well-known studios in Valencia, and even those in other cities, have started bringing pieces to NUDE”. The twenty-six pieces were chosen by Cosín, Alejandro Benavent, Silvia Flórez, and María Fontes by looking at past projects from NUDE that made the jump to industry or self-publication.
New forms, aesthetics, and uses
This look back over the past twenty years consists of more than just furniture. According to José Luis Pérez Pont, the director of the Consorci de Museus and the CCCC, it features “a reliable selection of new forms, aesthetics, and uses”. Innovation of the precepts of design was one of the selection criteria that the pieces had to meet.
A pioneer of Valencian design
Within Fería Hábitat, which includes NUDE, there is also space to sing the praises of the best in local design with the monographic exhibition for Vicent Martínez, the co-founder of Punt Mobles, a company that won the National Design Prize in 1997. From September 20 to September 23, Vicent Martínez: a constant presence. Memory, the recent and the unpublished will feature a chronological review of his early, recent, and current product design projects.
