Mayrit Biennial returns to serve as a platform for young emerging designers in its third edition, which will be held between May 22 and 28 in Madrid. Under the slogan Wet dreams, developed by researcher Marina Otero, design practices that adopt divergent approaches will be addressed, emphasizing forms of embodiment, solidarity, and desire in relation to bodies of water and fluid matters.
In Connections by Finsa, we select the most relevant among all the programming that consists of 97 participants, fifteen exhibitions, five workshops, six talks, three parties, and four concerts.
The sensitivity of textiles, in wood
Traces of transformation will be a workshop and exhibition exploring a dialogue between two textile creators (Idoia Cuesta and Inés Sistiaga) and fifteen artists around the processes and materialities of wood. Through artisanal techniques, the transformation of wood from the forest to the final object will be reformulated. The results can be seen at the Central de Diseño de Matadero.
Unmasking hyperreality
We recommend that you keep an eye on the IniziaZone collective and their exhibition From Reality to Dream, where they will dismantle the hyperreal saturation of contemporaneity and highlight the longing for utopian futures through three phases (Reality, Limbo, and Dreams). Concerts, DJ sets, talks, and workshops will complete this proposal.
Fun Furniture For Friends
Small Pedestrian Bridges (PPPP) is a project by Fun Furniture For Friends (FFFF), recognized as Best of Spain in 2023 by AD magazine, in collaboration with architect Miguel Lantero. It offers a series of colorful devices that invite connection and imagination, intervening from public space and self-construction. It is a collection of objects designed in 2021 to be incremental, the result of creative evolution and the process of continuous learning.
Chairs, lamps, brooms, bookshelves, pipes, chandeliers, tables, or animals formed by metal tubes arranged in straight and curved lines will be the products that will encourage reflection on new domestic needs.
