Talking about Patricia Bustos is talking about color and curves. Her signature style is easily recognizable in the projects that pass through her studio, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2024. In this article, we review four of her iconic works, with a special nod to new technologies.
Casa Ola: the sea breaks its curves in Madrid
Casa Ola is one of Patricia Bustos’ star works. Inspired by nature and the sea, its aim is to bring a beach to those who live in this space located in Madrid. How does she achieve this? Through a conscious use of materials (beach mortar and sand, marble, onyx, wood, or handmade ceramics) and sinuous forms (her design has been heavily influenced by the footprints of the great masters of the curve: Sáenz de Oiza, Antii Lovag, and Gaudí).
An&Be Store: pure artisan essence
An&Be is a Spanish fashion brand based in Madrid, whose values are rooted in craftsmanship, a concept reflected throughout the project. The mix between hard elements such as natural stones, concrete blocks, and baked clay, and soft materials like curtains (designed by professionals from the brand itself) and natural rattan reflect the delicacy of handmade work.
People who enter the space are embraced by a harmonious environment of earthy colors and warm tones where a sense of raw beauty is integrated (formed by a select combination of marbles and clay pieces) as they browse the displays showcasing the brand’s garments. The architecture and clothing dialogue with each other, telling a story of heritage and innovation.
Synesthesia: life in colour
This restaurant generates an exclusive experience for its clients, making them live a gastronomic performance with various audiovisual projections, sound effects, and props that accompany each dish. For this purpose, colours became key allies in conveying the sensations of each culinary proposal.
The design is based on kinetic art and seeks to reflect an optical illusion that inspires curiosity about what is to be enjoyed. The waiting area at the entrance simulates a ship that will take you on a journey of the senses, guided by an icy blue tone towards the minimalist interior. There, a large dome situated on the ceiling houses the projector that plays with lights according to the rhythm of the service.
Arquetopia: dreams you can eat
Patricia Bustos has created her archetype of a restaurant in Arquetopia, “the very essence of nature and art”, in her own words. Inspired by sacred geometry, organicism, and bioconstruction, it relies on materials such as mortars made from natural fibers and earth, stone, lime, and carved wood.
